Fact: The Corpus Christi Seawall was designed
by the sculptor of Mount Rushmore, Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum.
Fact: The city is named for Corpus Christi Bay, which was named by
Spanish Explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda on the feast day celebrating "The
Body of Christ" in 1519.
Fact: General Zachary Taylor, future 12th U.S. President, used the
trading post located here as a military base during 1845-46. It was used as
a transportation hub during the Mexican War, 1846-48.
Fact: The original inhabitants were the Karankawa tribes and other
Native Americans, migrating encampments up and down the Coastal Bend.
Fact: The Christopher Columbus
Ships are part of the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. The only
place in the world where replicas of all three ships are exhibited together.
